Depression Help (Home) > Depression Types Depression Type![]() These are terms that are mainly used by psychologists to plan treatment--the exact diagnosis is unlikely to seem all that relevant to the average person. One thing to notice, though, is that not all of the symptoms of depression are necessary to make a diagnosis of some type of depression. If depression is significantly interfering with your life, you should see a psychologist even if you don't have all of the symptoms of a major depression. Depressive disorders come in different forms, just as is the case with other illnesses such as heart disease. This pamphlet briefly describes three of the most common types of depressive disorders. However, within these types there are variations in the number of symptoms, their severity, and persistence.
